The Imperative of Our Times

Why an ARC in our name and what do we mean by resilience? We think an arc is a great visual with a play on words for its inclusiveness. The C in cyprian’s is an arc. We’re in this time and space together and we hope to reach all our neighbors, not just those who show up at Turk and Lyon. We refer first to personal resilience as an opportunity to be present and strong with one another, to share what we own and what we know. We often think of resilience as an ability to withstand shocks or calamities, but we take it further to include celebration and all sorts of connections to build a stronger community.

P1290168Environmental resilience is more difficult to undertake, especially when next month’s rent or mortgage seems so much more immediate than the reality of climate change and its impacts. At ARC we plan to work within the community to determine the best niche for our sustainability efforts. We hope to design and test new models of urban connections, perhaps one landscaped sidewalk, community garden and solar paneled roof at a time.
